After the devistation of the tsunami one of the main concerns of the 4Kali team was to provide support for children and local teachers. The huge loss of life meant that most of the English speakers in the community were lost as they worked in the hotels near to the beaches. Traumatized children needed to get back to some semblance of normality and ensuring that schools could function was paramount in restoring some sense of routine to their lives.
Tourism is a main income source in Khao Lak and it is essential for people to speak English. Our Education Projects target kids and adults within the region to improve their English skills and provide educational support. The program’s cost-benefit ratio is excellent due to the relative low cost of the program and the high impact. The ESL classes help many people at the same time and do not require many resources, which makes it an ideal project for our organization . The program also includes small construction projects for schools like playgrounds and kitchens in order to improve the overall learning environment.
