HP Computer Lab Opening at Wat Pattikaram SchoolAfter weeks of preparation and planning Hewlett Packard, Happy Hearts and 4Kali joined together to open a state of the art computer laboratory at Wat Pattikaram School. The school, which is 30 minutes south of Khao Lak, houses over 140 children with the main intake of children being underprivileged orphans. Despite the renovations being carried out up until the very last minute (thanks Patrice and Eddie, from Sam and Ruby Foundation for their extra help) the morning was a huge success. The morning events started with a marching band parade followed by the VIP guests. Khun Be, kindly volunteered her time to MC and translate the speeches into English, which was very much appreciated by the many foreigners attending. The children proudly showed off their award winning aerobics dance routine and the kindergarten children dressed beautifully with full makeup, and performed a traditional Thai dance. The computer lab of sixteen student computers, printers, a scanner, and a teacher’s station which included a large LCD screen for instruction was unveiled with a ribbon cutting ceremony laced with fresh flowers. HP also donated three additional workstations and a printer/fax machine for the teacher’s workroom. The children were given a sample lesson using the donated technology, first using Google Earth to show the children the exact location of their school on the globe. Then Spencer from 4Kali, equipped with a laptop and webcam, played hide and seek around the school with those in the classroom illustrating the possibilities of digital communication. HP will be installing similar facilities in companionship with Happy Hearts around the globe linking these schools for cultural exchange. The computer lab offers so many opportunities for future educational purposes “Bringing the Digital World to Children.” HP also very generously donated laptops, a desk top and docking stations to 4Kali, which was very much appreciated! |
